LinkedIn to focus on “Suggested Posts”

You know how content on LinkedIn can sometimes disappear from feeds faster than you can say “what is the current rate of inflation”? Well, LinkedIn is shaking things up by updating its algorithm to promote relevant older posts, regardless of when they were originally shared.

How will they actually work?

So, for your post to be deemed as a “suggested post” – LinkedIn will need to consider it as unique. You might be thinking, how do I share insightful knowledge in under 150 characters when we’ve previously been advised to keep it short and sweet?

Word on the street is that the devil is in the detail with this algorithm update, and long-form content could be poised for a stronger comeback. However, its effectiveness depends on the context in which it’s deployed…

What do we mean by longer form content?

Consider exploring newsletters and anything audio-related when contemplating longer form content. Leveraging these mediums should allow you to showcase your expertise more comprehensively, thereby increasing the chances of receiving a “unique” recognition from the LinkedIn algorithm.

What does it mean for timely content?

It’s worth noting that timely content will still hold significance. For instance, if you share a mid-year outlook, it might not simply disappear after a day or so; instead, it could remain relevant on people’s feeds for a longer duration. It’s a win-win.

What does this mean for you?

This algorithm update might present an opportunity to review your LinkedIn platform strategy to complement the algorithm update. My suggestion: play to the algorithms strengths by highlighting reports on the platform, now that they have the potential to be treated differently.

My perspective?

I always take algorithm changes with a pinch of salt but, this update does present an opportunity for test and learn, particularly from an organic standpoint. Want to have a chat about ways to expand your platform strategy? You can reach me directly at [email protected]. Always happy to chat social.
